Lewiston Auburn eARTh Day 2019

Saturday April 20 10am-2pm

After the great success of last years eARTh Day LA event we are excited to host another. This event helps our planet, our community and is an opportunity for us to enrich the community with more public art. We have a lot more businesses and groups jumping on board to lend a hand in our downtown clean up.

There will be several different area clean ups, the unveiling of painted sidewalk murals, a new creative crosswalk (Sea Turtles on Adams Ave next to Dr Drew and His Animals Too),  fire hydrants, studio and public art tours, local music, and a buy local cash mob. Some of the new events this year include: seed swap, river clean up and raised bed planting. Do you have a group that would like to be involved?  For more info please message the UMVA-LA.

This past few months has been full of wonderful things for us. For The Love of Art event was well attended and received by attendees.

March UMVA-LA Meet Up:

We were honored to have our Artist talk for March in the Studio of Artist Michael Libby at Lewiston’s historic Pepperell

Mill, who shared his work, aspirations, inspirations, and beautiful music with us. Michael’s work is prolific and shares empathy for those struggling with addiction. He is currently working on creating a hot air balloon with the chemical make up of heroin on it and flying it over all of the mill towns of Maine.

L/A Community Galleries is a collaborative effort by UMVA-LA and L/A Arts to bring art into the spaces of people utilizing services/programming by some local venues.  We are starting with The Chapman House, an assisted living facility, and The Center for Wisdom’s Women,  a support system for all women in our community.  These spaces are not always open to the public but the addition of local art can enrich the lives of those who enjoy it in so many ways.  This project is still in working phases with a prospective launch date of April 1st.  We will continue to search out more spaces to share art with those who may not have access to it.
