LumenARRT! is a project of the Artists’ Rapid Response Team (ARRT!). We work through the Union of Maine Visual Artists (UMVA), a members’ organization that advocates for artists and furthers the work of progressive non-profits in the state of Maine. Our video projections create a visual voice for these organizations and like electronic graffiti, bring awareness to issues of social, economic, and environmental justice. We welcome new members, if you seek to collaborate with others in shining a light on important issues for all of us, get in touch!
LumenARRT! rocked the First Friday October and November Artwalks in Portland Maine. LumenARRT! lit up the downtown with fabulous video projections and hand painted photo op selfie placards, joined by the Ideal Maine Band, they celebrated our democracy and the right to vote. The League of Women Voters volunteers helped inform potential voters.
Many people stopped by, took photos, listened to the band and talked about their voting plans. Click the image below to see one of the videos projected on Mechanics Hall.
On 20 December, the Longest Night of Homelessness Vigil happens in Monument Square. LumenARRT! has participated for a few years with projections of remembrance on the memorial listing the names of those who were lost in the previous year.
During Portland’s First Friday Art Walk on 3 January 2025, LumenARRT! will support Brazen Bandits’ Community Art Space opening event. Described as “a talisman for trans-liberation and connection through creative practice” the exhibit will be shown at Space Gallery, 538 Congress St., Portland, through January.
Since the November elections, LumenARRT! has been meeting and planning for the upcoming year. As we talk to activists and advocates, we are doing a lot of listening. Stay tuned for upcoming events.
