Katharine Cartwright

The New Order is a conceptualized body of work that deals with the transformation of our lives globally as we face the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are now conscious of the spaces around us and how we interact in those spaces. Some of us require more, and others less space. The image of the coronavirus itself is spread far and wide and has become a source of fear and dread. My “healing viruses” are fully imagined as those that will heal us as we usher in the new era post-COVID-19. The designation HV20a, b, c, d, e and f are the same types of designations used for real viruses. This is an ongoing series that will continue as the pandemic continues. My work suggests that art and science meet at a common intersection.

Dave Berrang

Each of the titles of these pieces is posed as a question meant to reflect the uncertainty of this moment. Each answer to the question posed by the titles is, in my mind, a hopeful “YES.”

Anita Clearfield

My friend, the professional model Susan McComb, asked me if I wanted her to model with her mask on during the pandemic. I like the figure-in-landscape theme and all it conjures of Eden and the human condition of being cut-off from or part of nature. Now with the virus, we have our pathetic masks to try to separate and dominate nature, but when nude it’s more obvious that our attempts at dominion are kind of silly—and nature in all its abundance doesn’t care.
