The Brunswick Hannaford Public Art project has finally come together. The store installation includes two paintings by Michael Branca, 12 smaller pieces by BHS art students, and a replica of the ARRT! banner pictured below that ARRT! painted for “Cultivating Community” in Portland. The theme of the entire project is Mid-Coast Hunger Prevention. A celebration was held Friday, September 6th.
Another ARRT! banner is being used in the entrance to the Brunswick Town Office Building, and the Curtis Memorial Library will be displaying some of ARRT!’s immigration-related banners in October.
The annual Independence Day Parade in Whitefield, Maine, featured the Green Nude Deal, with help from community members and ARRT! This year’s production informed people about the Green New Deal. A video can be viewed at: https://youtube/F1l64RjV7tk
September’s ARRT! session in Brunswick included some Casco High School students working on a banner for solaRISE, and work on a banner for the Extinction Rebellion. The students have persuaded the Portland School Board to create a solar panel installation to power 80% of the electrical needs of all Portland schools!
ARRT! The Artists’ Rapid Response Team! is a project of the Union of Maine Visual Artists. The ARRTists are members of the UMVA who collaborate with progressive organizations throughout Maine to create “visual soundbites,” frequently in the form of banners, to be used to draw attention to important issues. ARRT! is grateful for the support of the UMVA and the Broad Reach Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
LumenARRT! is a project of the Artists Rapid Response Team (ARRT!). We work through the Union of Maine Visual Artists (UMVA), a members’ organization that advocates for artists and furthers the work of progressive non-profits in the state of Maine. Our video projections create a visual voice for these organizations and like electronic graffiti, bring awareness to issues of social, political and environmental justice.
LumenARRT! was proud to join Extinction Rebellion and 350 Maine for the Global Climate Strike. We projected at Fringe Fest, Biddeford, ME on behalf of the animals facing extinction due to climate change and human stressors.
