ARTIST’S STATEMENT
Charles Stratton, as told to Natasha Mayers
The Lord God has certain ideas he wants expressed in pictures and He uses me to do it. He blesses me and those that see and understand His pictures. I hope that you see and understand and are blessed, too.
I don’t have much to say about my work–the pictures speak for themselves. I try to draw ideas more than images. To me the message is more important than the image. I use words on my pictures. People are so used to seeing advertising pictures with words splashed over them that it is not surprising to see words and pictures together. I can’t meditate, so I draw my ideas as they come to me from the spirit.
These pictures in pastels are a sequence for a book called Art for the Heart. It’s about 90% done, with 70 pieces of artwork revealing God’s truth in a world of massive lies. They are given through me by Lord Jesus Christ, and reveal to me what God’s plans are for the future. Truth hurts. God’s heart isn’t all angels and fluff.
To work, I need to get peaceful with no pressing thoughts. The Lord is the artist. He gives me dictation of what he wants me to draw, according to His knowledge of what I am capable of, what my state of knowledge and wisdom is. I study religious books and political and economic books to have some knowledge.
My work offers an alternative vision for the end of America. God is teaching me and it overflows to the viewers. Some of my pictures are things I feel but don’t know until I see them on paper, so I learn from them. When you grow as a Christian you have to have a clean heart. Through the Holy Spirit, with Bible knowledge of the word, you can recognize lies.
